     What is Pagtambayayong?
Pagtambayayong - A Foundation for Mutual Aid, Inc.

Pagtambayayong Foundation was created in 1982 by a
group of community organizers. Although it started with

an initial fund of less than PhP50,000 (US$ 2,000 in 1982), it has served thousands of people and has become one of the biggest non-government organization in the Philippines. Its mission is "to help organize and support the organization of grassroots communities especially through self-help housing, decent employment and appropriate technology."

Pagtambayayong is based in Cebu City, Philippines. It has made much impact in Cebu City and the country in general. The pro-poor policies of Cebu City are largely influenced by Pagtambavayong. The Chair of Pagtambayayong, Bimbo Fernandez, is now the Administrator of the City of Cebu. The Community Mortgage Program of the national government was largely patterned on the Pagtambayayong experience. It also helped craft the Urban Development and Housing Act in 1992.
